How The Chemical Industry Is Becoming Sustainable With Cameron Whaley And Michael Suver

Chemical industry veterans Cameron Whaley, President of Southern Chemical & Textiles and Michael Suver, Executive Vice President of Integrity BioChem join Victoria Meyer on The Chemical Show Podcast from the recent SOCMA Specialty and Custom Chemical Show to discuss their venture in the biosurfactant market, as well as their new product, Dextera.

We discuss the state of the chemical industry in recent months, what it takes to make a collaborative effort between two companies happen, and what we can expect from SCT and IBC in the future.

Overview

Integrity BioChem (IBC) is proud to mark a new chapter in its transformation from a performance-focused energy company into a leading innovator in specialty and sustainable chemistry. During a recent appearance on The Chemical Show podcast, IBC’s EVP of Specialty Chemicals, Mike Suver, joined SCT President & CEO Cameron Whaley. They discussed the companies’ collaboration, the development of EdenSurf™ and Dextera™, and the future of biobased surfactants in personal care and industrial applications.

Evolving from Oilfield to High-Performance, Sustainable Solutions

While IBC remains committed to supporting energy markets, the company has rapidly expanded into new sectors including personal care, agriculture, and industrial cleaning. Central to this shift is a proprietary biopolymer platform originally designed for the oilfield—one that has proven remarkably versatile across formulation types.

By investing in innovation and building the right partnerships, IBC is delivering high-performance green chemistry that meets growing demand for eco-conscious, scalable, and supply-stable solutions.

Meet EdenSurf™ and Dextera™: The Next Generation of Surfactants

The partnership between IBC and SCT led to the development and commercialization of two key technologies:

  • EdenSurf™ – A novel, biobased surfactant developed for personal care applications. Featuring a maltodextrin-laureate backbone, it offers outstanding foaming, skin mildness, and viscosity. Without the drawbacks often seen in natural surfactants.

  • Dextera™ – A performance-driven formulation platform built using EdenSurf™. Dextera is aimed at delivering premium functionality in bath, body, and skincare products.

After extensive R&D and regulatory preparation—including full INCI registration—both EdenSurf™ and Dextera™ are now market-ready.

Why It Matters: Sustainable, Scalable, and Secure

EdenSurf™ stands out for more than just its performance. It’s made from a non-food, sugar-derived polysaccharide that’s domestically sourced, renewable, and abundant. This gives manufacturers a sustainable ingredient without the risk of disrupting the food supply chain. Or relying on unstable overseas sourcing.

IBC has vertically integrated operations—including its transportation subsidiary, Riva Transport. This means IBC company is uniquely positioned to deliver consistent, scalable supply for both small- and large-scale formulators.

Powered by Partnership

The success of EdenSurf™ and Dextera™ is rooted in a deep collaboration between IBC and SCT. Together, the two companies brought shared values, trust, and complementary capabilities to the table. They are accelerating product development and opening new market opportunities.

The result is more than just a product launch. It’s a model for what’s possible when performance and sustainability align.

What’s Next for IBC?

IBC will continue expanding its biosurfactant portfolio across personal care, industrial, and agricultural markets. IBC current has over 10 biosurfactants already commercialized for energy and industrial use. The company is now preparing to launch four to five additional solutions tailored for personal care formulations.

By staying committed to R&D excellence, supply chain reliability, and strategic collaboration, Integrity BioChem is setting a new standard for what specialty chemistry can—and should—deliver.
